Top seeded Davidson won its 12th Southern Conference Tournament championship Monday night in Asheville with a 74-55 win over the College of Charleston. The Wildcats never trailed in running their record to 26-7. The Cougars drop to 24-10.
Davidson was led by tournament MVP De’Mon Brooks with 24 points and 8 rebounds. JP Kuhlman added 14 points. Andrew Lawrence led Charleston with 19 points.
The Cougars shot just 29.8 percent and were only 1-10 on three pointers.
Charleston cut a 12 point lead to six early in the second half but could get no closer. The lead eventually ballooned to 20 points with just under three minutes to play.
The championship is the seventh for Davidson coach Bob McKillop and the fifth in the last eight seasons. The tournament was the last for the Cougars in the Southern Conference as they are moving next year to the Colonial Athletic Association.
