The Gamecocks headed out to the Proving Grounds for their second practice of the spring on Thursday. With Connor Shaw recovering from off-season surgery on his left foot, Dylan Thompson and the rest of the Gamecocks’ quarterbacks have seen their reps increase in Shaw’s absence. Shaw has been present at USC’s practices, but has not participated.
Thompson, who has taken the snaps with the first-team, played in 11 games last season, tossing 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He started the regular-season finale against Clemson and threw the game-winning touchdown against Michigan in the Outback Bowl.
Thompson and quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus spoke to the media on Thursday about Thompson’s performance last year, the improvements he has made this spring and the overall play of the quarterbacks in the first two practices.
