USC baseball coach Chad Holbrook said Monday that center fielder Tanner English broke his nose making a diving catch Sunday against Liberty. English decided against surgery and will try to play through the injury. Surgery would have kept him out for at least two or three weeks.
English isn’t the only Gamecock hurting this week. Reserve outfielder Ahmad Christian is dealing with a back injury. Holbrook said Christian will probably have to sit out the next four to six weeks to recover. Christian is also a defensive back on the Gamecock football team.
USC is back in action Friday afternoon with the opener of a three game series against Albany.
