It is kind of fitting Clemson’s heartbreaking results on the road would end on Valentine’s Day. The Tigers went into Atlanta and beat Georgia Tech 56-53 to grab their first ACC road win of the season. The much needed when helps ease the sting of a three game winning streak and gives the team some confidence heading into a home matchup with third ranked Miami this weekend.
The win also takes some of the sting out of last Sunday’s home loss to NC State. The Tigers weren’t able to close out the Wolfpack in that one, losing on a last second three. Against Georgia Tech they were in a nearly identical spot but found a way to close. Milton Jennings, who missed the front end of a 1-on-1 late in that loss against the Pack, made a key free throw with just over seven seconds left to give the Tigers a three point lead and then blocked Tech’s last second 3-point attempt to tie to secure the win.
Jennings finished the game with 12 points. K.J. McDaniels led the Tigers scoring charge with 14. He also had three blocked shots. Devin Booker scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The Tigers only turned the ball over 7 times. They were averaging close to 17 turnovers during their three game losing streak.
