USC won the battle for LB Skai Moore of Fort Lauderdale Wednesday morning when he announced he would sign with the Gamecocks over Vanderbilt and Rutgers. He also got a late offer from Miami but never seriously considered it. Moore once was committed to Rutgers but decommitted in early January. He later visited USC and the Gamecocks rose to the top of his list. He also took a visit to Wisconsin. Some of his other offers were Nebraska, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Texas A&M and Ohio State. Last season Moore had 105 tackles with 6.5 sacks and 4 interceptions. He joined Jonathan Walton on Signing Day as officially joining the Gamecocks and giving them five linebackers in this class.
Clemson hit the secondary daily double in Florida Wednesday landing highly prized cornerbacks Adrian Baker of Hollywood and Mackenzie Alexander of Immokalee. Baker picked the Tigers over Oklahoma. He once was a Florida State commitment. Baker also had offers from Ohio State, Florida, West Virginia and LSU. Baker had 38 tackles and 4 interceptions last season. Alexander also considered Auburn, Mississippi State, Florida, Georgia Texas A&M and others. He was once committed to Tennessee but decommitted last spring. Last season he had 51 tackles and 4 interceptions.
Long time North Carolina commitment DB Korrin Wiggins of Durham, NC switched to Clemson Wednesday announcing his plans during a ceremony at his school. Wiggins had narrowed his decision to Clemson, North Carolina and Ohio State. Wiggins was a Shrine Bowl performer last season. He had 90 tackles and 7 interceptions in his senior season.
Clemson always had DB Ryan Carter of Grayson, GA on the board. He was just below several others in the pecking order. Carter made an official visit to Clemson a couple of weeks ago and left without an offer. Wednesday Carter got that offer from Clemson and he signed with the Tigers. Carter also had offers from Ole Miss, East Carolina, Tulane and others.
USC and Clemson both missed on defensive line targets Wednesday. Keith Bryant of Delray Beach, FL chose Florida State over USC. Montravius Adams of Vienna, GA signed with Auburn over Clemson, Georgia and Alabama.
Clemson ended up with 23 in the new class, four of which enrolled early. USC has 21 in its 2013 class with three already in school.
DE Kendal Vickers (6-3 225) of Havelock, NC said Wednesday night he still has a shot to qualify for a USC scholarship this year based on his academic progress this semester. Vickers did not sign an LOI Wednesday and understands that USC is holding a spot for him should he qualify. “Right now I need two A’s and 2 B’s to qualify,” Vickers said. “I got all As last semester and I’m planning on getting all A’s this semester.” Vickers is also planning to retake the ACT in hopes of improving that score. Vickers said if he fails to qualify he will enroll in a prep school with plans on going to USC in January.
Shrine Bowl DE Jaylen Miller of Gaffney, the last of the uncommitted major prospects in South Carolina, signed Wednesday morning with Tennessee. Miller had been favoring the Vols since taking his official visit there January 19th. He also took a visit to Georgia Tech. Miller also considered NC State and Wake Forest. He had 27 sacks last season.
