There was a little bit of racing activity at Darlington Raceway Tuesday.
Goodyear conducted one of its tire tests at the old track with a handful of drivers hitting the track…Carl Edwards, Juan Pablo Montoya, Martin Truex Jr. Denny Hamlin and Paul Menard.
The test started in the morning and lasted into the late afternoon as Goodyear engineers picked up more data to help them build the tires for the new Gen-6 cars NASCAR will run this season.
Edwards and Truex Jr. talked to the media during their lunch break and both expressed optimism for higher speeds and better handling with the new cars. The drivers expect the track qualifying record at Darlington of 181.254 MPH to be challenged this spring.
NASCAR returns to Darlington on Mothers Day weekend for the annual Bojangles’ Southern 500.
The drivers will be heading to Daytona in a couple of weeks. The Sprint Unlimited will be run on February 16th and the season opening Daytona 500 is set for February 24th.
