Conway High School head football coach Chuck Jordan led a group of high school athletic directors in a meeting with the SCHSL executive committee about proposed realignment. Jordan spoke with SportsTalk tonight about his group’s proposal that they presented to the committee.
According to Jordan, a decision about possibly expanding to five classifications was on the agenda for today, but Jordan’s group asked the committee to delay their decision. The group of athletic directors also brought a proposal to the committee that would consist of three classifications and two divisions within each classification. The proposal would also include the classification system applying to all sports, meaning there would be six state champions in every sport.
Jordan said that the group feels there are too many state championships played in football and too few played in other sports. He also said that the regions currently used by the high school league are not ideal.
Jordan says no action was taken and that the group asked the committee not to adopt the new plan, but instead to delay making a decision until gaining more information.
