According to multiple reports, including GatorCountry, the BigSpur, and ESPN’s Travis Haney, USC defensive line coach Brad Lawing is leaving the Gamecocks to join the staff at Florida. Lawing just finished his 17 season coaching in Columbia. He has been on Steve Spurrier’s staff since 2006. He also previously worked on the Gamecocks staff from 1989 to 1998.
As for the reasoning, according to a source Lawing is leaving because of non football related personal issues. He reportedly was in Florida Sunday to meet with Gators coach Will Muschamp.
Lawing has been on of USC’s top assistant coaches. He’s credited with helping to recruit and develop players like Eric Norwood, Cliff Matthews, Clifton Geathers, Melvin Ingram, Devin Taylor and Jadeveon Clowney.
