The Kentucky Wildcats came into this season hoping to defend their national championship, but had to without their top six scorers from last year’s team who were all drafted in the NBA Draft. However, head coach John Calipari makes his living off of “one-and-done” players, which is something he will have to do again this year. The country’s No. 1 recruiting class has made that transition a little bit easier, led by the nation’s top recruit Nerlens Noel, who was selected as the SEC Preseason Freshman of the Year and as named to the preseason first team All-Conference.
Despite the losses and having nine underclassmen on their roster, the Wildcats were still picked as the favorites to win the SEC again and began the year ranked 3rd nationally.
Kentucky has started the season with a 4-1 record with their only loss coming at the hands of the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils, and have slipped to No. 8 in the pools. Noel currently leads the team in rebounds and blocks (averaging over 3.5 per game), but fellow freshman Archie Goodwin leads the team with 19 points per game.
