On the first play of the quarter, USC completed the drive that started late in the first quarter. Kenny Miles, who rushed for 61 yards in the first quarter, ran in from the two for the touchdown. It was a 51 yard drive in 13 plays. USC 7-0.
USC blew a chance to add to their lead later in the quarter. Mike Davis broke free on a run from the Wofford 22 but was hit at the six and fumbled. Blake Wylie picked up the ball on a bounce and returned it to the Wofford 17.
Wofford gave the ball right back to the Gamecocks with a fumble at their own 43. But Shaw was sacked for the fourth time in the half and the Gamecocks punted to the Wofford 15.
The Terriers then went on a 12 play drive to tie the game late in the half. Getting their option offense going for the first time, the Terriers gained all their yards on the ground with Eric Breitenstein gaining the final 46 yards. He scored on a two yard run with :32 left in the half. 7-7
