Clemson finished off a drive it started late in the first quarter with another Boyd touchdown pass. This time he hit his tight end Brandon Ford near the left sideline. Ford made an excellent catch over the head of the defender and tightropped the sideline the rest of the way to complete the 22 yard scoring pass. Clemson 28-o.
A turnover cost Clemson later in the quarter. Humphries dropped a punt while looking up in to the sun and Maryland recovered at the Clemson 18. The Terps converted the turnover into points when Petty hit Devonte Campbell with a 17 yard scoring pass. Clemson 28-7.
Clemson was on its way to getting that touchdown back when Boyd fumbled at the Maryland two and the Terps recovered. But the Tigers forced a punt and took off on another scoring drive. This time Andre Ellington would not be stopped as he ran in from the six for a touchdown. 35-7 Clemson.
