The Duke Blue Devils became only the sixth 2-seed in NCAA history to lose to a 15-seed (Lehigh) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season, which was a disappointing end to a 27-7 season under Coach K. The Devils did lose 3 players from last years team, but added two McDonald’s All-Americans to their roster and start the 2012-2013 season ranked 9th nationally.
Duke’s defense suffered dramatically last season, something that used to be Coack K’s calling card, finishing 222nd in points allowed per game. The Devils were picked to finish second in the ACC behind in-state rival NC State, and should be led by returning senior starters Seth Curry, Ryan Kelly, and Mason Plumlee, who was a preseason 1st team All-ACC selection.
Duke opens their season Friday against Georgia State, then will face defending national champion Kentucky on November 13 in the State Farm Champions Classic.
