Charleston Southern’s men’s basketball team was picked to win the South Division of the Big South conference and are the favorites to win the entire conference as well, as voted on at the league’s Basketball Tip-Off media event.
The Buccaneers had a record of 19-12 last season and finished third in the Big South last season after being picked to finish eighth, and return four starters from that team. Among those players are sophomore guards Saah Nimley, who was named to the all-Big South preseason first team , and Arlon Harper, who was named to the second team.
This marks the first time that Charleston Southern has been the preseason favorites in the Big South, which is going to a two-division format for the first time in league history after expanding to 12 teams this year.
Coastal was picked to finish second in the South Division, with Winthrop being slotted fourth and Presbyterian sixth. Campbell was crowned as the favorite to win the North Division.
The Bucs will open up their season at Charlotte on November 9 before traveling to play Arizona in Tuscon on November 11.
