Virginia hung with the big boys all of last season, but couldn’t finish them off. The Cavaliers blew second-half leads against North Carolina and Duke, then gave away a ten-point lead with forty-two seconds left in an ACC Tournament gave versus Miami. Head coach Tony Bennett wants to see his team finish the job this season, and there is cautious optimism in Charlottesville. Virginia’s backcourt is led by sophomores Joe Harris and K.T. Harrell, both of whom have plenty of big-game experience with forty combined starts last year. The interior is loaded with seniors, including Assane Sene and his ninty-three career blocks. And they will be bolstered by the return of star forward Mike Scott who missed most of last season with a knee injury. The Cavaliers are deeper than they have been in a long time, but their shooting must improve. Virginia led the conference in three-point shooting at 38.8 percent, but finished dead-last from inside the arc at 43 percent.
