Miami is starting a new era on the hardwood as well as the gridiron, as former George Mason head coach Jim Larranaga has brought his talents to South Beach. After falling Alabama in the NIT quarterfinals last season, the Canes are eager to make a return to the Big Dance. Larranaga will rely on a dangerous backcourt to anchor his squad. Miami will also need production from their big man, Reggie Johnson. The Hurricanes will look to break into the ACC elite and bring some positive publicity to a campus that has had little to cheer about in the recent months. While Duke and North Carolina still dominate the league, Miami has a chance to make some noise in the conference. If the Hurricanes can buy into Larranaga’s system, the Canes may be dancing sooner rather than later.
