It didn’t take Sammy Watkins long to make a name for himself. Seven games into his career the folks around the ACC and the rest of the country are buzzing about the speedy and talented wide receiver. Last week he set a school record with 345 all-purpose yards. He called that performance the best of his life.
Offensive lineman Landon Walker grew up in North Carolina and as a youngster he was a huge fan of the Tar Heels basketball team. Even though the Heels offered him a scholarship he never seriously considered Chapel Hill. It came down to Clemson and N.C. State and Tiger fans are thankful he opted to join their program.
Tajh Boyd got off to a shaky start Saturday night against Maryland before rebounding for an impressive four touchdown night. He doesn’t have an explanation for the slow start against and he isn’t overly concerned because he finished strong. Boyd said he is still learning on the job and there are going to be some bumps along the way.
Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele’s unit had a hard time slowing down Maryland and quarterback C.J. Brown last week. After reviewing the film Steele said it boiled down to missed assignments on a few key plays. Steele said his guys played very well for most of the 81 plays. It was the 14 bad ones that cost them a lot of yards and points.
