USC defensive back D.J. Swearinger has been named the SEC co-defensive player of the week and Gamecock wide receiver Bruce Ellington was tabbed the league’s co-freshman of the week.
Swearinger tallied a career high 12 tackles in Saturday’s 14-12 win at Mississippi State. His fourth quarter interception on the USC 12 yard line sealed the victory for the Gamecocks.
Ellington was a jack of all trades against the Bulldogs. He caught four passes for 32 yards, carried the ball four times for 25 yards and completed two of his three passes for 24 yards. He also returned a kickoff for 17 yards.
USC is off this week. They will play at Tennessee next Saturday.
