Clemson started the fourth quarter by converting a third and seven from its own 23. Tajh Boyd scrambled for eight yards to move the chains. The Tigers kept it going from there and capped a 12 play, 75 yard drive with an 11 yard touchdown pass from Boyd to Jaron Brown. The score put Clemson back on top 42-38 with 11:26 left in the game.
Maryland didn’t lie down. The Terps answered with a 13 play 66 yard touchdown scoring drive capped by a 32 yard touchdown pass from C.J. Brown to Matt Furstenburg. The score put Maryland up 45-42 with 7:35 left in the game.
The score wouldn’t stay that way long. Sammy Watkins returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to put Clemson back on top 49-45 with 7:24 left in the game. The return gave Watkins 355 all-purpose yards, which is a school record. It broke C.J. Spiller’s mark of 312.
Maryland drove the ball to the Clemson 41 before they turned it over on downs. The Tigers put together a 4 play 59 yard touchdown drive to give themselves some breathing room. Andre Ellington scored on a 44 yard touchdown run. Clemson led 56-45 with 3:55 left.
The Terps were unable to do anything on their next possession, turning it over on downs own 24. From there the Tigers were able to run the clock out and leave College Park with a win.
