DL Carlos Watkins of Chase High in Forest City, NC is working on his college decision between Clemson and Florida which he plans to announce Friday night following his Senior Night game. Chase High coach Daniel Bradley has been working closely with Watkins on his decision. He met with Watkins and his family Monday night and shared some of the behind the scenes discussion:
“It’s a matter of if he wants to play in the SEC or if he’s okay with the ACC. He likes the SEC, but he likes what he sees at Clemson right now.”
“The way Florida is performing, and the way Clemson is performing, if Florida were undefeated, it might not be much of a choice.”
“We’re going to meet again tomorrow (Tuesday). He’ll make his announcement after the game on the field. He might have the band play the fight song of the school he chooses (to announce his choice).”
Watkins made an official visit to Florida earlier this month. He’s taken multiple unofficial visits to Clemson.
Watkins told Ryan Bartow of TigerIllustrated.com last night Florida has a small lead on Clemson right now.
Miami commit LB Keith Brown (6-1 224) of Miami took an official visit to Purdue this weekend with two of his teammates. He enjoyed the trip. “They wowed me with their academics,” Brown said. “It was a good trip. They blew out Minnesota so it was a good game for them. The coaches were really great.” Brown has already taken an official visit to Clemson and is planning a return trip. “I’m going to take an unofficial (visit) up there but this time I want to take my parents with me,” he said. Illinois is another school he will visit on an official and plans to take all five. Brown is unsure of which other two schools with receive those visits. “I’m going to take a lot of unofficials (visits) too,” Brown said. “I know I’m going to Miami, South Florida and Florida.” He remains committed to Miami. “I want to go to the school where I feel the most comfortable,” he said. “I want to feel at home.”
DE Kenderius Whitehead of Atlanta plans to visit Clemson unofficially October 22nd for the North Carolina game his mother said Monday night. “I want to get a feel of the place,” Donna Hill said. “He has legitimate interest in Clemson.” Whitehead has taken an official visit to North Carolina, and he’s been to Georgia for a game. He’s also been looking at Tennessee. Whitehead has said Georgia is his leader.
6-9 Brice Johnson of Edisto revealed on his Twitter account today he has cut USC from his list and is down to Clemson, UNC, NC State and Florida. He has taken official visits to UNC, NC State and Florida and is scheduled to visit Clemson this weekend.
6-3 Adonis Filer of Fitchburg, MA made an official visit to Tennessee last weekend. That was his second official visit following an earlier one to Utah. “It was great, I thought it was a real good school,” Filer said of UT. “It’s one of the top schools I have right now. The people I was surrounded by were real nice. I’ve never seen anything like it.” Filer is still on with his official visit to Clemson October 22nd. He talked to Clemson recruiter Rick Ray Monday night. And he might take a visit to Purdue. “All of them want me pretty bad,” he said of his final four schools. “And I have a good chance to be the starting point guard my freshman year.” Filer will not sign during the November signing period but he will make an early decision. He will make the choice either on November 24th or December 3rd when he is back at his home in Chicago.
