DL Carlos Watkins of Forest City, NC said today Florida is his leader over Clemson has he heads into the final week before announcing his choice October 14th. “A lot of it is the momentum coming back from the game day experience,” said Watkins’ coach Daniel Bailey. Watkins visited Florida last weekend. “Personally, I think they are about even. This weekend we will all sit down and talk. It was actually a surprise when he said Florida was a leader. First time I’ve heard him say that.” Watkins has been to several Clemson games this season. He plans to continue with his official visits even after his announcement with USC and Alabama two of the schools he wants to visit.
OL Bryce Kennedy of Southern Pines, NC received his first offer from USC earlier this year but did not commit. USC led for his services for several months. The Gamecocks remain high on his list, however Kennedy said, “I haven’t heard from them in a while so I don’t know what is going on. I still like them but I am not sure if I am going to visit.” Once his favorite, Kennedy is now leaning towards NC State and North Carolina. “I guess you could say they’re my top two,” he added. This past weekend, he visited NC State and will visit UNC this Saturday. He plans to set up his official visit with the Tar Heels while in Chapel Hill. He did not name a leader.
Clemson will get an official visit later this month from PG Adonis Filer (6-3 195) of Chicago. Filer attends Notre Dame Prep just outside of Boston. He played for a high school in Hammond, IN last season and averaged 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists per game. “I can get to the basket easily, and I’m a good outside shooter,” Filer said. “And I love to play defense.” Filer recently took an official visit to Utah. “It was a great visit,” he said. “I liked the scenery and the way the fans are totally into the sport, and the way they like the football and basketball players.” This weekend he will visit Tennessee and Clemson is set for October 22nd. Filer said he already has a strong relationship with Clemson thru recruiter Rick Ray. “I talk to Coach Ray every time he’s allowed to call me,” Filer said. “And I have a good relationship with Coach Brownell. I’ve talked to him a couple of times.” Filer is also looking at Purdue and Pittsburgh for possible visits. The Boilermakers have offered while the Panthers have not. He does not have a favorite at this point. “It will come down to where I feel comfortable and the amount of playing time I’m going to be looking at my first year.” Filer said he will not sign early. “I don’t want to rush into it,” he said.
One time Clemson target 6-9 Richard Peters of Phoenix committed Wednesday to Washington State.
