South Carolina ran its record to 4-0 Saturday night by knocking off previously undefeated Vanderbilt by a score of 21-3 at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks never got the offense going in a big way as quarterback Stephen Garcia was intercepted four times and running back Marcus Lattimore was held under 100 yards rushing for the first time this season.
But the Gamecock defense was stellar all night. In fact, defensive end Melvin Ingram scored one of the touchdowns on a fumble recovery in the end zone, his third touchdown of the season.
The Gamecocks are 4-0 for the first time in Steve Spurrier’s time in Columbia. And they are 2-0 in the SEC, tied with Florida atop the SEC East. The Gamecocks will host Auburn next Saturday with kickoff either at 12:20 PM or 3:30. The time and TV outlet will be announced Sunday.
