Florida State opens the quarter with a score. On the first play, Clint Trickett connects with Rashad Green in the right side of the endzone for a 30 yard touchdown. A third down pass interference call against Clemson kept the drive alive. Trickett was 6-7 passing on the drive. The Seminoles went for two but a Trickett pass was caught out of bounds. With 14:55 to play, Clemson leads 28-23.
Clemson squashes the Seminoles’ momentum on its next possession. Tajh Boyd uses the pump fake to draw in the coverage and lofts a perfect pass to Sammy Watkins who does the rest on a 62 yard scoring play. With 13:06 to play, Clemson has a 35-23 lead.
Later in the quarter, Florida State got back within striking distance with a quick, four play, 78 yard drive. A 32 yard pass play with a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty tacked on put the Seminoles deep in Clemson territory. Trickett then hit Kenny Shaw on passes of 11 and 9 yards, and the ‘Noles trailed 35-30 with 7:21 left.
Florida State stopped the Tigers on downs at the FSU 34 with 2:49 left to get one final chance to pull out the win. But the Seminoles could get no further than their own 43. Trickett was sacked on fourth and nine to end the drive and give the ball over to the Tigers who then ran out the clock.

Clemson finished with 455 yards. Boyd passed for 344 yards and 3 touchdowns. Watkins had 8 catches for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns.
