The Gamecocks receive the opening kick off and drive into Vanderbilt territory. On a 3rd and 15, Stephen Garcia’s pass is picked off at the Commodore 7.
The Carolina defense holds Vandy to a 3 and out, but the Gamecocks’ drive ends on a failed 4th down attempt at their own 40.
Carolina’s defense is up to the challange, as the Commodores are unable to move the ball. Vanderbilt punts and pins the Gamecocks back at their own 4 yard line.
Carolina drives out to their own 28, but Vanderbilt intercepts Stephen Garcia for the second time in the quarter to set up their offense deep in Carolina territory.
The Commodores are unable to find much success moving the ball, but take an early 3-0 lead, courtesy a 33-yard Cary Spear field goal with 1:43 remaining in the quarter.
The quarter end with the Gamecocks driving and the ball at the Vanderbilt 46 yard line.
Garcia is 5-10 for 51 yards with two interceptions. Lattimore has five carries for 13 yards.
