DB Marty Williams of Fox Creek committed to Clemson Monday night according to his coach Russ Schneider. Williams plays quarterback and safety and will go to Clemson to play defense. He’s the 18th commitment for Clemson’s 2012 class, the fifth for the secondary. Williams also is the 11th player from the state committed to the Tigers for 2012.
Hanahan WR Chris Brown committed to Notre Dame Sunday after wrapping up an official visit with the Irish his father confirmed Sunday night. Brown, who according to his father had been favoring USC before making the trip to South Bend, also considered Virginia Tech, LSU and Cincinnati the most from his offer list. Brown has not played since the second week of the season because of a broken collarbone. He’s expected back late in the regular season. He is also one of the top high school triple jumpers and long jumpers in the country. He had the top two high school triple jumps in the country last season and the best long jump in South Carolina.
Clemson and USC have been in touch with LB Jamal Marcus of Durham, NC and he remains interested in each. “I talked to Coach Caldwell and Coach Hobby from Clemson recently,” Marcus said. “They seem to be interest. I’ve also got interest in South Carolina and I talked with Coach Johnson recently. I’m a little more interested in Clemson than USC because of the way they are building their program and I like the coaches.” Clemson and USC are among the 20 offers Marcus has been considering. “I’m trying to cut that list down,” he said. Marcus is planning to take unofficial visits to NC State, Duke, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and East Carolina. He has not decided on his official visits and does not have favorites.
RB Wes Brown (6-0 200) of Olney, MD has a final ten he plans to reveal this weekend. One school he says that is among the final ten is USC. “They play with the type of backs for my skill set and that interests me,” Brown said. He was at Maryland for the season opening win over Miami and has not been to any other games. He has no other visits planned and has not decided on official visits. Brown said he’s not sure when he’ll make his decision. Brown is regarded as one of the top running back prospects in the Mid-Atlantic area. He played in only four games as a junior because of a broken leg.
The USC women picked up a commitment last week from 5-8 PG Tiffany Davis of Houston. According to ESPN.com HoopGurlz, Davis also considered Baylor, Charlotte, SMU and TCU. She’s the third commitment for Dawn Staley’s 2012 class.
