Clemson handed Auburn its first loss since the 2009 season, a streak stretching back 17 games, in an impressive 38-24 win in Death Valley in front of 82,000 fans. The Tigers also snapped their own personal 14 game losing streak to Auburn dating back to 1951. And the game also marks Auburn’s first loss in the Palmetto State since 1951. The Tigers will make a return trip in two weeks when they play at South Carolina.
Several Tigers had career days on offense including quarterback Tajh Boyd who set personal marks in every positive passing category. Sammy Watkins, Dwayne Allen and DJ Howard also starred as did the offensive line which saw starter Mason Cloy go out in the first half with a lower leg injury.
The win avenges a painful loss last season by Clemson in overtime at Auburn, a victory many feel was the catalyst to Auburn’s run to the national championship.
Clemson is now 3-0 and will play it’s ACC opener next Saturday at home against Florida State. The kickoff time and TV outlet will be announced Sunday morning.
