USC received to start the second half. Their first drive started inside their own 10 yardline because of an illegal block in the back on the return. The Gamecocks moved down the field all the way to the Navy 18 yard line before the drive ended on a Stephen Garica interception. Garica was picked on a first down play intended for Alshon Jeffery. He was hit as he was throwing causing the pass to come up short and making it an easy play for the defensive back.
Following the pick, Navy took over on the USC nine yard line. The Mids marched right down the field and scored a touchdown to take a 21 lead. The Middies went 91 yards on 11 plays on a drive that took 6:10 seconds. The key plays of the drive came on a 27 yard pass completion on a third and eight and a 30 plus yard gain on a play in which they fumbled on a run and recovered inside the Gamecock 10.
On its next drive the Gamecocks moved the ball to the Navy 29 yard line when time ran out of the quarter. It was first and ten for USC.
