On it’s second possession, Auburn broke the first big play of the game. Michael Dyer went around his right end, found a seam and took off untouched on a 52 yard touchdown run. That was his 5th touchdown of the season. With 10:36 left in the quarter, Auburn 7-0.
Auburn struck for another big play score on its next possession. Facing fourth and four from the Clemson 36, Barrett Trotter hit Emory Blake on the post pattern for a 36 yard touchdown. Blake beat Bashaud Breeland on his inside cut and got several yards behind him. He made a finger tip catch and went untouched into the end zone.
Clemson finally got something going with its offense on the last possession of the quarter. Tajh Boyd hit Sammy Watkins for a couple of nice gains and then found DeAndre Hopkins for 23 yards to the Auburn 4 as the quarter ended.
