USC remains in the hunt for WR Alton “Pig” Howard of Orlando. Howard said he talked with Gamecock recruiter Jeep Hunter last Saturday. “He’s fired up about me and wants to get me in for a game,” Howard said. He has the Gamecocks, Central Florida, Tennessee, Cincinnati and West Virginia as his top five but added he is still wide open. “Anything can happen,” Howard said. Howard said the only official visit he’s certain about at this point is Central Florida. He’s also heard from coaches from South Florida, Cincinnati and Tennessee since the contact period began.
South Aiken DL Josh Brown is off to a big start this season, as is his team. Coming off a 0-11 season, the Thoroughbreds are 2-0 and Brown has 17 tackles. And on top of all that, Brown landed an offer from Clemson last weekend, his first from an FBS school. “It was a dream come true, I really can’t explain it,” Brown said. “I wanted to cry when Coach Swinney said it. It had been a long time. I had worked very hard. It’s something very special but it’s nothing until you work hard for it.” Brown has been to Clemson for camps and has always liked the Tigers. He could have committed on the spot when Swinney offered but he felt like it wasn’t the right time. “I owe my team and my school everything I’ve got,” he said. I want to tell my team after my last game.” Brown also wants to see if other major schools make offers following Clemson’s lead. But that’s not likely to change his plans. “I see the paw,” he said. “Just being there, I felt the fans.” Brown said he might return to Clemson this Saturday for the Wofford game.
6-0 PG Shea Jones of Orlando committed to Presbyterian. He’s the son of ESPN announcer Mark Jones.
