DB Lucas Thompson of Winter Garden, FL has been favoring Miami for an extended period. But with the investigation of the Hurricane program heating up, Thompson is still keeping his options open. One of those is USC. Thompson has the Gamecocks in his top five. The others on his list are Louisville, West Virginia and East Carolina. But everything for Thomas revolves around the Miami situation right now. “We’re still waiting to hear what’s going to happen (with the investigation,” Thompson told the Orlando Sentinel. Thompson said a major penalty against the Canes, like a four year penalty, would lead him to drop them. A shorter penalty would not affect his feelings for Miami. He does not plan to announce his decision until the Under Armour all American Game.
DB Trae Elston (6-0 183) of Oxford, AL has Clemson, LSU and Alabama as his top three in that order. “I like Clemson a lot,” Elston said. “I like the coaching staff and the way they play defense.” He has plans to take an official visit to Tigertown but has not set a date. “I want to go during the season so I can see the atmosphere,” he said. Thus far, Oregon is the only visit he is sure of taking. “I’m going in either October or November but I’m not really sure,” he admitted. Elston would like to visit LSU as well. “I’m going to take all five visits and I don’t think I’ll visit Alabama because it’s so close,” he said. “I was going to visit Miami but…you know. I may go to Nebraska instead.” Elston had an interception Friday in his team’s Jamboree game. He plans to be a National Signing Day decision.
LB Rafael Kirby (6-2 218) of Stone Mountain, GA is committed to Miami but is considering taking other visits, including one to USC. “Right now, I’m focused on the season and I remain a Hurricane,” Kirby said. “I’m taking a wait-and-see approach. There’s plenty of time to visit other schools.” Kirby has not scheduled any other visits but has admitted that the Gamecocks are a possibility. “I haven’t really thought about where I would visit or thrown out any names but I did mention to someone that South Carolina is one schools I could visit,” he said. Kirby developed a strong relationship with Lorenzo Ward during the recruiting process. “He’s just a good guy,” Kirby said. “He’ll just talk to you about things other than football.” Some of Kirby’s other offers include USC, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas, Southern Cal, Stanford and Virginia Tech.
Clemson has been in touch with PG Madison Jones (6-1) of Raleigh, NC. Jones said he heard from the Tigers about two weeks ago. “They are interested and want to come to the school and watch my workouts,” said Jones who attended Clemson’s elite prospect camp last summer. This summer he visited Virginia and NC State. Jones has offers from Richmond, Charlotte, Georgia Southern and Seton Hall. He’s also getting interest from Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee. He does not have a favorite. Jones averaged 15 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds per game last season.
