Coastal Carolina announced Thursday the suspension of starting guard Danny Nieman from the basketball team for the fall semester for a violation of team rules.
Nieman was stopped last month in a vehicle and charged with an open container violation.
That wasn’t his first run in with the law. In 2009, Nieman was arrested in his hometown of Concord, NC and later plead guilty to a misdemeanor drug paraphernelia possession charge. He received 24 hours of community service and 12 months of probation.
Nieman started in all 34 games last season and averaged over 6 points per game.
