USC opened pre-season football practice Wednesday night in front of several thousand fans and head coach Steve Spurrier said Thursday’s practice also will be open to the public.
Star receiver Alshon Jeffery did not practice because he was sore from a minor car accident on Tuesday. Spurrier said Jeffery’s car was hit from behind and he suffered some whiplash like symptoms. He should be able to practice in a few days.
A handful of other players, like Deon Green, Mike Matulis, Gerald Dixon (South Pointe) and Brandon Shell were held out of practice while nursing injuries.
Spurrier said #2 quarterback Connor Shaw threw the ball particularly well. Spurrier said he also was impressed with the overall speed on his offensive unit. And he noted that freshman Jadeveon Clowney was, indeed, difficult to block.
