USC first baseman Christian Walker, the team’s leading hitter in average, home runs and RBI, injured his wrist in his last at bat in Friday’s win over Virginia Gamecock coach Ray Tanner disclosed Sunday afternoon following practice. Walker was unable to complete his batting practice Sunday. He has been receiving treatment and has also used a wrist brace similar to what centerfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. wears. Walker injured the wrist on his next to last swing in his final at bat Friday night. He eventually flied out to right field. If he is out Monday night, Tanner said he likely would shift Robert Beary from catcher to first and return Brady Thomas from DH to behind the plate. Thomas caught most of the season but has only caught once in the NCAA Tournament because of a foot injury.
Here’s more reaction from some Gamecock players after Sunday’s practice to the news about Walker’s injury as well as their views about the championship series with Florida.
