Some teams have it. Some teams don’t. Let’s face it. The USC baseball team has “it”. Exactly what “it” is, nobody can say. But the Gamecocks have it. They picked it up sometime last season and they’ve yet to let it go. It’s carried them to the brink of a second straight national championship. It’s a swagger, a confidence, a belief that no matter what, they are going to find a way to win. How else can you explain that 13 inning win Friday night. How does a team face three bases loaded situations late in a game and still win? How does an opponent have 13 base runners on against you over the final five innings of a game and not beat you? How does a coach know to insert a pinch runner in the bottom of what turned out to be the last inning, and that pinch runner turns into the game winner? It is hard to figure out, but it doesn’t matter if it’s ever figured out. It happens. And it happens a lot for the Gamecock baseball team.
