USC officials confirmed after Sunday night’s Super Regional win that associate head coach Chad Holbrook will interview with Tennessee this week for the Vols’ head coaching job. Those plans were first reported by John Whittle of TheBigSpur.com Saturday night.
With the departure of Mike Hamilton last week as athletic director at Tennessee, Holbrook is now believed to be the front runner to replace Todd Raleigh who was fired after the season. Call Fullerton coach Dave Serrano, a former Tennessee assistant, is also considered to be a strong candidate.
USC head coach Ray Tanner has made it clear the school will do all it can, short of naming Holbrook head coach in waiting, to keep him at USC. Tanner and athletic director Eric Hyman have already met on the matter. Holbrook, who is in his third season at USC, is paid $160,000 per year.
