According to a report Coastal Carolina baseball coach Gary Gilmore has been contacted by Tennessee about the Vols head coaching vacancy. According to Gilmore the talks are not serious at this point.
Former UT athletic director Mike Hamilton is the one that made the call to Gilmore. Hamilton resigned this week and that could change the dynamic of the search. Gilmore hasn’t heard from anybody in Knoxville since Hamilton’s resignation.
Gilmore has won over 900 games and has led the Chants to the postseason in ten of the past 11 seasons. He told the Myrtle Beach Sun News he is happy in Conway.
“When a place the stature of the University of Tennessee calls, I encouraged coach to at least give it a look and see if he thought it was a better fit for him than Coastal Carolina. [But] I think somebody will really have to knock his socks off to get him to leave Coastal Carolina.”
USC associate head coach Chad Holbrook is also believed to be a serious candidate for the Tennessee job. He told SportsTalk this week he is happy as an assistant in Columbia but will listen to what the Vols have to offer.
