From Furman Sports Information:
Bob Richey, who spent the past five seasons as part of the Charleston Southern University coaching staff, has joined the Furman men’s basketball program, it was announced on Tuesday by Paladin head coach Jeff Jackson.
“We are very excited about adding Bob to our staff,” said Jackson, who guided Furman to 22 wins and a postseason appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament this past season. “His experience as the associate head coach at Charleston Southern will allow him to touch and impact every aspect of our program.”
Richey, who helped guide the Charleston Southern to its highest win total since 1997 this past season, logged four seasons as an assistant coach for the Buccaneers before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2010-11 campaign. During his time at Charleston Southern, he recruited three players who went on to earn All-Big South Conference honors, including the school’s No. 2 all-time leading scorer Jamarco Warren and 2010 Big South Defensive Player of the Year Kelvin Martin.
The Florence, S.C. native recruited two players who earned Big South Freshman of the Year honors in their rookie seasons, and he placed at least one player on the Big South All-Freshman squad in four consecutive seasons. In 2010, he was rated the No. 4 assistant coach in the Big South by FoxSports.com’s Jeff Goodman while also being the youngest coach on the list.
A graduate of Florence Christian School, Richey led his team to a state championship his senior year, while posting a 28-2 record. He was named the 3A State player of the year and currently holds 7 school records at Florence Christian.
Richey graduated from North Greenville University in May of 2006, with a degree in Business Management. In April of 2007, he married the former Jessica Tingle and the couple celebrated the birth of their first child, Audrey, on January 8, 2010.
