The USC-Stetson game Sunday night in the Columbia regional was interrupted by a heavy thunderstorm at 8:24 PM. Power to the stadium was lost and about an hour later, the decision came to postpone the game until 1:00 PM Monday. If a second game is needed Monday, it is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start if there is power at the stadium. If there is no power, that second game would start 50 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
USC leads the Hatters 4-1 with two outs in the top of the 5th. The Gamecocks need one win to advance to the Super Regional which they would host.
USC took a quick 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run to right field by Evan Marzilli. It was his third homer of the season. Stetson tied the game in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Nick Rickles.
The Gamecocks went ahead in the third as Robert Beary legged out his first triple of the season and scored two batters later on a Marzilli sacrifice fly to center.
USC made it 3-1 in the 4th on an RBI single by Beary. And the Gamecocks made it 4-1 in the 5th on a Jake Williams sacrifice fly to left which scored Scott Wingo.
USC had the bases loaded with two outs when play was stopped. Christian Walker singled and was moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Brady Thomas. Adrian Morales reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners. And Peter Mooney walked to load the bases. Beary, who already has two hits in the game, is due up when play resumes.
Forrest Koumas allowed just one run on three hits in his four innings of work Sunday night.
The plan for Monday is for the Sunday night game to be resumed at 1:00 PM. Gates will open 11:30. If power is restored to the stadium, the if necessary game would be played at 7:00. If no power has been restored, that game would start 50 minutes after the conclusion of the earlier game.
