USC’s quest for a second straight national title begins tomorrow night in Columbia. The Gamecocks will open Regional play against Georgia Southern. Carolina is 45-14 this season and the Eagles are 36-24. Gamecock skipper Ray Tanner told reporters Thursday based on the RPI the Columbia Regional is the toughest of the 16.
Ray Tanner will send ace Michael Roth to the mound. He’s 11-3 with a 1.17 ERA this season.
USC and Georgia Southern will play at 7:00. N.C. State and Stetson will play the first game at 1:00.
This is The Gamecocks 12th straight trip to the postseason and its 27th overall. The Gamecocks are one of only eight schools in the country that has been in a Regional each of the past 12 years.
