NC State enters this weekend’s regional with a 34-25 record. The Wolfpack went 1-2 at the ACC tournament in Durham but has won six of its past ten games. Pack coach Elliott Avent is very close with Gamecock coach Ray Tanner. Tanner of course is an NC State alum and was the head coach in Raleigh prior to taking over at USC.
Last year N.C. State played in the Myrtle Beach Regional hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Wolfpack lost to the College of Charleston in the first game and then fell to Stony Brook in the second game. This is the third time in the past five years that NC State and USC have crossed paths in the post season. In 2007 the two met in the Columbia Regional and in 2008 the Pack ended the Gamecocks season in the Raliegh.
NC State will play Stetson at 1:00 Friday afternoon.
