Englishman Luke Donald will take a one shot lead into Saturday’s third round of The Heritage at Hilton Head seeking his second win of the season and his first at Harbour town. He finished tied for third last year and tied for second in 2009. Donald is currently ranked #3 in the world and likely will ascend to #1 with a win this weekend.
Donald’s 65 puts him at 10 under par, a shot ahead of first round leader Garrett Willis and two ahead of the foursome of defending champion Jim Furyk, Camilo Villegas, Jason Day and Chad Campbell. Three back are Ben Crane and Ian Poulter.
Six players from South Carolina made the cut which fell at a tournament tieing even par. Clemson’s DJ Trahan is the best of that group. He’s at six under after a 67 Friday.
Duncan’s Matt Bettencourt and Bishopville’s Tommy Gainey are at four under. Clemson’s Ben Martin is minus three, and Greer’s Bill Haas and Beaufort’s Kris Blanks are at two under.
State players not making the cut were Charles Warren, Mark Anderson, Kyle Stanley, Lucas Glover, Jonathan Byrd, Brad Faxon, Kevin Kisner, William McGuirt and Sam Saunders.
