A pair of USC bound stars led their teams to victories Saturday night in the 14th annual Carolinas All Star Classic at Socastee High School.
Damien Leonard scored a game record 35 points, including a game winning three pointer with 6.4 seconds to play, to give the SC Boys an 87-84 victory. North Carolina’s Stilman White got a three pointer away from the left corner before the buzzer but it bounced off the rim.
Leonard, who signed with USC in November, also set a game record with eight three pointers. South Carolina led by 13 at halftime but North Carolina took the lead in the second half, and the teams battled to the finish. Florida State bound Terry Whisnant II led North Carolina with 12 points.
The win is the second straight for South Carolina in the series which North Carolina leads 10-4. Its the first time South Carolina has won two straight in the series.
In the girls game, SC won 64-52. USC signee Aleighsa Welch was named the team’s MVP after scoring 10 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. The victory snaps a two game losing streak for South Carolina in the series which NC leads 8-6.
