Clemson has advanced to the semi finals of the ACC Tournament with a 70-47 win over Boston College. Its the Tigers’ first win in the tournament since they reached the finals in Charlotte in 2008.
They will play top seed North Carolina Saturday in the first semi final game. The Tar Heels rallied from a 16 point second half deficit in beating Miami 61-59. The Tar Heels never led until Tyler Zeller laid the ball in the basket just ahead of the final buzzer.
The Tigers jumped on the Eagles from the opening tap and never let them back in the game. Clemson scored the first 11 points and held the Eagles without a basket for the first seven minutes.
The Tigers led by eight points at the break and they kept up the pace in the second half building their lead to as much as 22 points. The Tigers were very sharp on offense with their ball movement leading to some very good inside shots.
Demontez Stitt led the Tigers with 20 points. He also led the Tigers with 9 rebounds. Jerai Grant added 12 points and Milton Jennings had 10 off the bench. Joe Trapani led Boston College with 20.
This win should seal the Tigers NCAA Tournament chances. Before the game ESPN expert Joe Lunardi had them as a 12 seed playing Texas A&M in Tucson, AZ.
