DL Phillip Dukes of Manning, one of the top signees in USC’s 2011 class, has scored high enough on his ACT to qualify for his scholarship with his current GPA his coach said Friday afternoon. “Unless he has a complete meltdown, he will now qualify,” coach Robbie Briggs said. The ACT score came in Friday morning. Dukes, or any signee for that matter, is not officially qualified until approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse, and then he has to be accepted by the university. But with his current qualified status, the final two steps are expected to be nothing more than formalities.
OL J.J. Denman (6-6 310) of Fairless Hills, PA has 18 offers that include USC, Mississippi State, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame, Rutgers, and Boston College. He says his top five are USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, and BC. “I’m going to get down there for a spring practice,” said Denman of USC. “Coach (G.A.) Mangus is recruiting me hard.” Denman has been to Rutgers, BC, and Notre Dame on visits. “They went pretty good,” he said. He is unsure of other visits he may take. Denman did not name a favorite.
DB Marquise Jones (6-1 185) of Eau Claire was offered earlier this week by Duke according to his coach Ronnie Baker.
