The Gamecock defense also came up big in the late innings turning double plays to end the seventh and eighth innings. Roth allowed 7 hits and 3 unearned runs to improve to 3-0. He struck out 6 and walked 3.
John Taylor and Bryan Harper followed Roth who was lifted after seven complete innings. Closer Matt Price was brought in with one out in the 8th and got a double play ground ball to end the inning. Price then struck out the side in the 9th.
