WR Chris Black (5-11 175) of Jacksonville, FL has offers from USC, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Notre Dame. “I’ve got over 30 offers,” he said, “but those are the schools that have kept in contact with me.” Black says though he does not have a favorite, USC and Florida State stand out. “FSU has been on me since the 9th grade,” said Black. “They have been recruiting me hard. South Carolina was one of the first to offer me and been with me the whole time. And most importantly, they are an SEC school.” Black just returned from a junior day at FSU and says he will make several trips in March. “I’m going to Alabama on March 5th,” he said. “I’m also going to Florida, South Carolina, and Miami.” As a junior, Black totaled 990 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.
QB Trenton Norvell (6-4 215) of Daytona Beach was at USC’s junior day and says the Gamecocks are showing a lot of interest in him. “I talked to (Steve) Spurrier, Jr. and (G.A.) Mangus a lot while I was there and they told me they were going to be recruiting me hard,” said Norvell. “They said I was one of the top three quarterbacks on their board.” Norvell has yet to receive an offer but says one may be on its way soon. “My coach told me he thinks Purdue is going to offer me tomorrow,” he said. Norvell is also hearing from Georgia and Florida, where he attended junior days, as well as Clemson, Notre Dame, and West Virginia. “I am definitely going to visit West Virginia in March,” he added. Norvell says he does not have any favorites but has the Gamecocks high on his list. “I am really glad they’re interested,” he said. “My sister went to school there so I know a lot about them. I like where coach (Steve) Spurrier is taking the program.”
USC has been a strong leader for TE Kevin Rainey (6-3 210) of Yulee, FL for a few months and that remains the case even after he took an unofficial visit to Florida Saturday. “It was good, pretty exciting,” he said of his top in Gainesville. “I liked how the coaches acted when I showed up. Most think I’m strong on South Carolina, which I am.” Rainey plans to call USC recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. Monday to set a date for a visit this spring. He plans to visit Georgia March 26th. Rainey has offers from USC, Southern Cal, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Florida International, South Florida, Miami, Alabama, Texas Tech and UCLA. He’s been discussing with his coach when he may make a final decision. “After the spring,” he said. “It’s a good chance it will be South Carolina. “I love what they have to say to me. The likelihood is pretty good but I’m going to keep my options open because I haven’t been to the school yet.” Last season Rainey had 30 catches for 450 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also plays running back, linebacker and defensive end.
DB Chaz Elder (6-2 180) of College Park, GA has offers from Clemson, Auburn, and Ole Miss and says the Tigers are among his favorites. “I like Clemson, Georgia, Florida State, Auburn, and Ole Miss,” said Elder. The junior safety plans to attend Clemson’s junior day next weekend. He has already been to FSU and Georgia for their junior days. Elder says he likes a lot of things about the Tigers. “I like the coaches, they are real cool,” he said. “I love the campus too.” Elder says he will not wait too long before making his decision. He did not name a leader.
Speedy WR Hayden Jones (5-11 165) of Orlando attended USC’s junior day Saturday. Jones was not offered but said the Gamecock receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. plans to evaluate him this spring. Jones is also drawing interest from Florida, Central Florida and South Florida. He plans to visit Florida and Central Florida in the coming weeks. Last season Jones caught 28 passes for 599 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also plays cornerback and safety.
DB DJ White (6-0 175) of McDonough, GA was at USC Saturday for the Gamecocks’ junior day. White just picked up an offer from the Gamecocks last week. He also has offers from Auburn and Georgia Tech, plus he’s getting interest from Florida, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech. He’s also been to Georgia Tech and Florida for junior days.
USC has become the latest offer for LB Karl Joseph (5-11 180) of Orlando. The Gamecocks join Cincinnati, East Carolina, Florida, LSU, Miami and Central Florida as offers for Joseph who can also play safety. He has visited Central Florida, Miami and Florida and right now favors Miami. Last season Joseph had 141 tackles with 25 for loss and 7 sacks.
One of the prospects to visit USC Saturday for junior day was ATH Ty Law (5-10 175) of Orlando. The speedy Law can play cornerback on defense and had 35 tackles with 3 interceptions last season. He joined his teammate, WR Hayden Jones, on the visit to USC. Law has not yet been offered. He’s also been drawing interest from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and NC State.
USC held a junior day Saturday, combined with a photo shoot by national recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, and many of the state’s top players as well as some from neighboring states were on hand. Among them was one of Georgia’s top prospects, RB Imani Cross (6-0 215) of Gainesville. Cross is the brother of Georgia Tech defensive end Izaan Cross who was heavily recruiting by the Gamecocks. The younger Cross has had the Gamecocks at the top of his list. He also has offers from Virginia, Georgia Tech, Central Florida, Maryland, Tennessee, and UCLA.
