Columbia native Tyrone Corbin will make his NBA head coaching debut tonight when the Utah Jazz play host to the Phoenix Suns. Corbin is replacing longtime Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan who abruptly resigned yesterday after 22 seasons in Utah. Team officials say Corbin doesn’t have an interim tag and will be the team’s head coach on a permanent basis.
Corbin is 48 years old and played his high school ball at A.C. Flora High School and played his college ball at DePaul. He was drafted by the Spurs in 1985 and played for nine teams over his 16 year NBA career.
Corbin has been an assistant in Utah for the past seven seasons.
