The time for Jadeveon Clowney’s announcement on February 14th has been set. Clowney’s coach at South Pointe Bobby Carroll confirmed Sunday night the announcement will be at 10:15 AM. The announcement is expected to take place at the high school and ESPNU is expected to televise the event. ESPNU producers have asked Clowney to return to their set in Charlotte Thursday for another interview segment. He is expected to make that appearance. Clowney had a busy Friday and Saturday with two basketball games and his high school football banquet. Saturday night after his basketball game Clowney was greeted by USC cornerback Stephon Gilmore, a South Pointe graduate. The two talked briefly before going their separate ways. Clowney has narrowed his focus to USC and Clemson. Sources have said they believe Clowney has basically made his decision but is taking this extra time to make sure of his choice. His coach has maintained the opinion that Clowney will sign with USC.
Junior OL Jay Guillermo (6-3 287) of Maryville, TN announced a commitment to Clemson Sunday becoming the Tigers’ first commitment for 2012. Guillermo grew up a strong Clemson fan and when the Tigers offered him last week that sealed his decision. “Once I got that offer, that’s the one I really wanted,” Guillermo said. “I’ve always loved Clemson. I just knew that’s where I wanted to be.” Guillermo made four unofficial visits to Clemson including its junior day late last month. He also visited Alabama and drew interest from Tennessee. Clemson was his only verbal offer at the time of his commitment. Guillermo is a center and helped his team win a state championship last season. “Coaches say I play thru the whistle, I’m aggressive and I’m quick off the ball.” Guillermo said he will look into possibly graduating early so he can enroll at Clemson next January.
OL Oliver Jones (6-6 300) of Ninety Six has offers from USC and Clemson and is hearing from several schools, including Georgia and Alabama. “You name it and they have shown interest, said his high school coach, Chris Liner. “They aren’t just sending mail. They are contacting me a lot about him.” Coach Liner says Jones has already been to Clemson’s junior day and plans to go to several more. “He’ll go to USC and Georgia wants him to come to theirs,” he said. Jones will likely take several visits over the spring. Liner says he does not believe Jones has a favorite at this time.
