LB Cedrick Cooper (6-2 204) of Lithonia, GA is on his way to USC for an official visit today and says that USC and Arkansas are out in front for his services. He has already visited Arkansas, North Carolina, and NC State. “I had a good time at NC State,” said Cooper. “The surrounding area is real nice and the players are hilarious.” Cooper did not rule out the possibility of committing over the weekend but says it is unlikely. “Anything could happen but I plan to commit on Signing Day,” he said. Steve Spurrier met with Cooper earlier this week and says Cooper could compete for early playing time. Cooper says Spurrier told him, “They need speed on defense and help on special teams. There is a chance for me to play (early).” Cooper is also considering an official visit to Ole Miss next weekend but is undecided at this point. He did not name a favorite.
WR Sammy Watkins (6-2 19) of Fort Myers, FL is not concerned with the move of Brad Scott to an administrative position in the Clemson athletic department, according to his coach, Grant Redhead. Redhead said, “As long as (wide receiver coach) Jeff Scott is there, there will not be a problem. The relationship is with Jeff.” Brad Scott will be replaced as the offensive line coach this weekend, as former Vanderbilt head coach and Pageland native, Robbie Caldwell, is expected to replace Scott. Caldwell will be on Clemson’s campus this weekend to iron out the details of his new gig. Watkins is committed to play for the Tigers.
DB Geraldo Orta of Valdosta, GA has canceled his official visit to Clemson for this weekend. Orta was choosing between Clemson and Tennessee and appears to be set to commit to the Vols.
DE Roderick Byers of Northwestern did leave this morning for an official visit to Oregon. Byers will now visit USC next weekend unless he commits to Oregon and decides to shut down his recruiting.
Four Clemson commitments have enrolled in school the university announced. They are quarterbacks Tony McNeal and Cole Stoudt and defensive ends Corey Crawford and Joe Gore. Receiver Martavis Bryant had hoped to enroll this month but wasn’t academically qualified to do so. He now plans to enroll this summer.
Summerville RB DeAngelo Henderson plans to commit to Coastal Carolina this weekend while on an official visit there. The Shrine Bowler also considered offers from Charleston Southern and Newberry. He rushed for 2345 yards and 27 touchdowns last season.
Summerville junior defensive back Matt White, who had 11 interceptions last season, hopes to play baseball at USC. He would commit to the Gamecocks if offered.
Shrine Bowl DB Zack Cole (6-2 195) of Patton, NC has committed to Wofford.
