- FSU forces a USC punt and starts a second quarter drive which reaches the Gamecock two. But on fourth and one, the Gamecocks force a bad pass from Christian Ponder and turn the ball over to the offense.
- FSU gets the game’s first touchdown late in the half. With Ponder out with an injury, EJ Manuel is the Seminole quarterback. He breaks off a 32 yards run to the Gamecock 27. On the next play, his pass to the end zone is dropped by USC corner CC Whitlock. Given new life, FSU’s Chris Thompson runs in from 27 yards out for a touchdown on the next play. With 1:02 left in the half, FSU leads 13-0.
- USC did not throw in the towel on the half. The Gamecocks come right down the field with Garcia completing six passes. A 21 yarder to Alshon Jeffery gets them to the FSU 23. Spencer Lanning comes on to boot a 40 yard field goal on final play of the half.
