We have a busy and full day of in-state college hoops on the docket today. The fun begins at 1:00 this afternoon when Winthrop will face 14th ranked Kentucky at Rupp Arena. The Eagles are 5-6 this season, but they do have a win over Wake Forest on their resume’. Last week Coastal Carolina won at LSU and last night Presbyterian won at Wake Forest. Maybe the Eagles keep the Big South’s hot streak going. The way SEC teams have been losing this season, anything can happen.
At 5:00 today The Citadel will play at S.C. State. Both of these teams are off to disappointing starts to the season. El Cid is 3-7 and State is 4-6.
Tonight the action heats up with both Clemson and USC playing rare road games against in-state foes. The Tigers are in the Lowcountry to face the College of Charleston. The Tigers don’t have Demontez Stitt (knee) and won’t have DeAndre Hopkins for another couple of weeks and this could be a strong test against a very talented and deep Cougar squad. The upset alert is on. This one will tip off at 7:00.
Also at 7:00, USC will play Furman in Greenville. The Gamecocks have had a tough time with Southern Conference teams the past few seasons. In the past two years Carolina has lost to the College of Charleston, Davidson and Wofford. The Charleston and Wofford games were on the road. The Paladins are off to an impressive 7-2 start and will be fired up for this one. The Gamecocks are coming off a loss at second ranked Ohio State.
